Calendar on the main page

Website

When you go from month to month on the calendar... pushing the '<<' or '>>' it turns the calendar into a full page instead of staying in that neat little frame.... something for you to investigate, peter

Calendar on the main page

That's the way it's supposed to work - the sidebar calendar zooms in to become a full-page calendar. I'll explain the calendar links:

The sidebar calendar (the uppermost right-side panel) has three links to get to the main calendar page. "<<" goes to the previous month, the "Month 200x" goes to the current one, and the ">>" goes to the next month. You can also click on the days that have events (bold numbers, if you hover your mouse over them you'll see the cursor change) to go directly to a day view.

On the main calendar page, the right sidebar blocks vanish to give you a better view of the calendar details. The "<<" and ">>" flip from month to month as you'd expect, while the links at the top "month | week | day | list" allow you to select different views of events. In any calendar view, you can click on the title of an event to see that event's detail page.

If an event on the calendar shows a green dot, it means that event's poster is looking for volunteers. You can click the green dot to sign up. You can also click the event title and after looking at the event's detail page, then click "volunteer".

Hope this helps,

My point was, Peter, that to get back to seeing the monthly caledar where it was when you first started navigating month-by-month you have to go back to home.

I do appreciate you telling me just what I had discovered about all the links in the calendar application. I am sure others will find that interesting.

So, to net it out, if you want to go back to the home view, you have to click on the home link. That the calendar function changes the view when you click it whether you want it to or not....

ok, thanks

Yes, with the current site framework, there's no real way to accomplish what must've been the intuitive (for you, at least) functions in the sidebar calendar. I guess flipping pages but staying in the sidebar view is a reasonable expectation, but programmatically, it's a complicated thing to achieve. That doesn't mean it's not possible, but I'd like to avoid reloading the entire page, and that makes it a challenge.

With that in mind, let me ask this, then: If the arrows should flip months but stay in the sidebar, what navigational device would you have expected to show you the full-page calendar?

I think it is completely satisfactory to move from one month to another in the sidebar and click on a date to see that days events.... I see absolutely NO need to view the entire month at one time.

Maybe just my two cents worth, but that is my opinion..... in fact in Outlook you can navigate to various months doing the same thing clicking on the arrows....
